Did you ever pause and think that every waking moment of every day, you are thinking. There are some thoughts that stick with you for many years, perhaps even for your entire life.
Some thoughts come and go and never stay with you at all. But there are other thoughts which come and go, and then come back
again and again and again.
Your thoughts are terribly important because they are the basis for all of your actions, and your actions are critical in making things happen. Thoughts by themselves cannot do anything outside of your own mind, yet those same thoughts surely do direct and control the processes which get things accomplished.
When we look at thoughts in general, we must also consider
that feelings are closely related and play a very important role in our lives. However the really powerful thing about your thoughts and your feelings is that they are both under your control. It doesn't always seem that way, nevertheless that is really the way it is. If you have strong negative feelings about another person or some difficult
situation you are involved in, then those feelings are going to steal your opportunity for positive thoughts to enter your mind The situation, in and of itself, has not taken over your thinking. You've
made the decision to give your thoughts to it.
Those special kinds of thoughts known as feelings work in a similar way. When you feel one way or another toward a particular person,
or situation, it is because you have made a personal connection with
that object of your feelings. Feelings do not simply overcome you and overwhelm you on their own. They are ultimately under your control and direction. You decide who and what you have feelings for, and what kind of feelings they will be.
Success in any endeavor is largely a matter of exercising control, control you already have access to, over your thoughts and feelings. Perhaps that sounds a bit unkind, uncaring and insensitive at first glance. After all, many people might appear to be imprisoned by their thoughts and feelings, seemingly through no "fault" of their own.
But whether it is their fault or not is not the issue because fault deals with the past. What has happened in the past cannot be changed and hence is of little consequence except as an experience from which to learn. What really matters to everyone, wherever they may be and however they may have gotten there, is the process of going forward. And no matter who or what may be at fault for a particular situation or circumstance, the way forward is always by exercising focused control over one's thoughts and feelings.
Believe me dear friends your thoughts can take you any place you choose to go. And they do so every day. However if anything beneficial is to take place you must focus your thoughts on that which is positive and then proceed to take action that you alone can take. You must initiate the movement toward the fulfillment of your dreams. No one else can do it for you!
In quietness and in confidence can be your strength. Take the time to sit in quiet meditation and ask yourself what you really want to do with your life. Don't be concerned about how other people define success. What is your definition of success? What would you do if you had no limitations - if money was not a problem, if you were not trying to impress others, if nothing could keep you from attaining your goal? Be totally honest with yourself and you will find an honest to goodness purpose in your life.
Whatever you do, don't let it get away. Take a hold of it and run with it. You will find positive, meaningful things, specific goals and dreams that you can focus your thoughts on and get out of the negative rut you have been stuck in.
Never forget that thoughts and feelings have a terrific amount of leverage. Just a little effort to keep them positive can have an enormous effect on every area of your life. Use that leverage in a positive way. Grab onto that power that is already yours by making the decision right now to exercise positive, focused control over the feelings and thoughts which you alone experience.
